Local anesthesia (L.A.) is one of the greatest challenges of the practice of Pediatric Dentistry. First, it is challenging to agree with it, then once accepted, and explained, the classical method of intraoral injection with a high-pressure plunger syringe as in intramuscular injection is considered abuse in Pediatric Dentistry today. Children, who are smarter than us adults, have rightly asked: why does a single tooth have to numb the whole cheek? Why did I bite my lip? Why should the injection hurt first – in order not to feel the pain caused by the treatment later on not? Why does the tooth still hurt after local anesthesia?
Indeed, for 160 years – since the invention and improvement of the classic hypodermic syringe (Lafarque-1836, Jayne-1841, Wood-1843, Pravaz-1853) – local anesthesia has never been revolutionized; this happens thanks to electronically controlled AL technology Wand / STA, Milestone Scientific USA and/or Sleeper One, Quick Sleeper brand Dental Hi Tec / Cholet / France.
