3 Tips on how to disinfect your toothbrush naturally

Do you know that tooth-brushing cannot provide anti-caries or antibacterial protection if the toothbrush (whether electric or manual) is not disinfected daily? Here are some simple tips on this topic.

One way to stop the spread of flu and viruses (such as the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak) is to make sure your toothbrush is clean and disinfected.

Our mouths are one of the most germinated parts of our body and a lot of germs will stick to the toothbrush for a long time.

Here are some great tips to disinfect your toothbrush with natural ingredients that are safe to get in your mouth. These tips work great for both manual toothbrushes and electric toothbrush heads.

1. Wash your toothbrush.

You should wash your toothbrush before and after each use.

To do this, simply hold your toothbrush under hot water. Not only will hot water soften the brush, but it will also help release food particles and excess toothpaste.

Next, you need to rub your fingertips over the brushes, while letting the cold water wash away the residue and the remaining toothpaste. Cold water will cause the toothbrush to regain its firmness and may limit the reproduction of germs.

2. Disinfect it with mouthwash.

Disinfect the toothbrush by letting it soak in an antibacterial/antiseptic mouthwash. Hold the brushing end of the toothbrush for 30 seconds in mouthwash.

Mouthwash containing alcohol will kill most of the bacteria.

You can also mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda in 1 cup of water and soak the toothbrush in this solution (if you do not have mouthwash).

3. Deposit the toothbrush in peroxide.

You can also keep your toothbrush in a food solution containing 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2 – hydrogen peroxide). However, make sure to change this solution daily.

Use a sufficient amount to cover the toothbrush head and disinfect it effectively.

If you want to make your own 3% hydrogen peroxide, simply mix 1 teaspoon of peroxide in a cup of water.

In addition, soaking the toothbrush in vinegar overnight once a week can also help kill germs.
